Minimalism & Lifestyle

If you are looking for my first ever gear post, it is actually my 2024 post. This post is for reference purposes. Please see the 2024 post before this one.

I began my minimalist onebag adventure by combining my EDC bag, gym bag, and travel bags. After this I began paring down that setup and replacing components to save space, weight, and lower possession count. A lot of my items I still use today came from around the time I took this photo in 2023. I had another onebag setup in 2022 but it was primitive and I actually lost the photo. Anyway, I posted this very photo on the reddit page r/Onebag and I remember it doing well although I deleted the account for some reason?

Clothes:

I had been experimenting with this idea of only owning one shirt as pictured. I eventually wanted more layers for cold weather and something more formal than just a t shirt. This is when I first purchased the MerinoProtect shirt I am still using in 2024, as well as my Wooly shorts.

My pants were Vans brand chinos in grey. I actually stumbled into black jeans kind of on a whim. Black top and grey bottom was my initial recipe for an outfit.

I used a $3 thrifted North Face 1/4 fleece pull over as a jacket however it was too thin down to anything below 50 degrees F.

I was using a $50 Eddie Bauer rain jacket I had purchased to start working as a longhaul semi truck driver, but this was very heavy. Almost double the weight of my current Eddie Bauer - which I love.

Underwear has been the same.

I had also just purchased my beloved Native Jefferson shoes which replaced my old Vans Ultrarange EXO. Those were good shoes, I used them for all occasions. Even work, at that time I was doing Doordash, Grubhub, and UberEats full time. (Fun fact - that year was the only year I did not have a separate work uniform.)

The socks pictured are actually really good socks, but super fragile. They disintegrated after 3~ months. I use my Darn Tough socks in my work shoes all day and every week. If you are not working a laborious type job I would actually recommend these Smartwool socks over Darn Tough.

Tech / Misc.

For a bag I actually first started off with a $300 Victorinox Brunswick briefcase/ messenger bag which is quirky for onebagging and I couldn’t pack for all seasons.. But it was my EDC bag I was using at that time. This is when I was working in a office setting as a paralegal. Anyway I resorted to a cheap Jansport Plus. $41 I think it was. These are really popular for kids in school so I knew I wanted something different eventually. However the Jansport bags weigh only 12 ounces I think which is impressively lightweight.

I moved from a gaming PC & Macbook combo to my current Lenovo X1 laptop.

My old charging setup is pictured here. This 30w wall charger was nice but it caused issues with my laptop. I was using an iPhone at this time so I had the lightning cable as well as a USB-C cable.

My toiletries kit, headphones, Buff, were the same.

I had a nice Victorinox watch I eventually sold on eBay. Wasn’t really into it. I would pick and choose days I would wear it - then that just became months where I wouldn’t wear it.

I used a little sock of a wallet. It was a tiny slip of stretchy fabric that held like 1-5 cards. I eventually just started buying phone case wallets.

I had this small blue cloth I used like a chair to sit down in random places without getting my pants dirty.

I was using a black cloth case for my eyeglasses because the Jansport backpacks do not have very good organization pockets, and I was concerned about scratches.

Also, because of the lack of organization pockets. I had a mesh bag for storing all the small misc. things I liked to carry at that time.
